She Sings! Celebrates 20 Years!

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, She Sings! Women’s Choir celebrates 20 years of music-making with a concert featuring violinist Karma Tomm, accordionist Jan LeClair, soprano Molly Luhta, and drummer Jonathan Barton as special guests.  The Celtic-themed evening will include many of the choir’s favourites, as well as exciting new works, and will showcase the usual flare and talents of co-conductor Emily McPherson and pianist Kristin Rae. Two choral works by composer and artistic director Martha Hill Duncan will be presented, and the second half will move us towards the holiday season.  We’d love to have you attend this memorable and joyous concert!

Ain’t No Sunshine choral concert

Saturday April 6, 2024, 7:30 PM, Chalmers United Church, Kingston Ontario, 212 Barrie St.

She Sings! Women’s Choir presents a perfect warmup for the upcoming total solar eclipse in Kingston, Ontario. As we sing about the sun, moon, stars and skies, we will be joined by the well-known Dave Barton Trio. Guest speaker Professor Emeritus, Dr. Martin Duncan from the Queen’s Astronomy Dept. will share spectacular celestial images and provide tantalizing tales of our awe-inspiring universe.

The celestial songs to be performed include Blue Skies, Stormy Weather, the heavenly choral work Sure on this Shining Light, Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning”, and of course, Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone”. JUST AN OLD SWEET SONG

Saturday, December 2, 2023, 7:30 PM The Spire, Kingston, ON

She Sings! will have the Dave Barton Trio as our special guest in a memorable evening of old and new jazz favourites.  Dave Barton is a jazz guitarist, arranger, and composer who has been featured at the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival and whose works have been performed by the Toronto Jazz Orchestra, the Greg Runions Big Band, BrassWerks, and the Queen’s University Jazz Ensemble.  Georgia on My Mind, Fly Me to the Moon, Stormy Weather, and a couple of Dave Barton jazz choral arrangements/compositions will open the show.  The second half will take us into the upcoming holiday season and include I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm; Christmas Time Is Here; and Hodie Alleluia by Kingston composer Mark Sirett.  You won’t want to miss this jazzy start to the holiday season!

“February 10th, 2019  2:30 pm: ‘TRINITY PRESENTS’ brings you“SONGS FROM THE HEART”, featuring She Sings! Women’s Choir with conductor Martha Hill Duncan, and the Kingston Youth Choir under the direction of Emily McPherson.  A little jazz, a little Broadway, a little gospel…something for everyone!.  Adults $20, students $10, children under 12 – free. Venue: Trinity United ChurchNapanee, ON.  Proceeds to support community outreach.  Tickets are available in Napanee at Ellena’s Cafe, Gray’s IDA, the church office (613-354-3858), or from choir members. 

Merry Christmas…and All That Jazz

She Sings! Women’s Choir, directed by Martha Hill Duncan, will kick off the holiday season with a jazzy Christmas concert featuring The Hannah Barstow Trio and The Kingston Youth Choir on Saturday, December 1, 2018, 7:30 PM at The Spire in Kingston, Ontario. You’ll hear many Christmas and seasonal favourites, along with a few surprises. This exciting musical evening will also include an original jazz choral piece written especially for She Sings! by Hannah Barstow, the 2015 winner of the U of T Jazz Arranging Prize and The Oscar Peterson Grant for Jazz Performance. The Kingston Youth Choir, directed by Emily McPherson, will add their enthusiastic voices to this special evening. Tickets: Adults $25, Students: $15, and children under 12 are free.

Wanting Memories

Join She Sings! and special guests – Soprano, Molly Luhta,  Kingston Youth Choir and The Odessa Children’s Choir on Sunday, May 6th for an afternoon of making musical memories in support of the Alzheimer Society.  Songs from the “war’ years, a touch of Abba, music from Rent, a stunning choral and solo rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and two premieres by local Kingston composers Martha Hill Duncan and Val Hamilton are just a few of the musical memories we’ll be performing. We hope to see you there!

To Canada, With Love

On Saturday, November 18th, 2017, 7:30pm at Sydenham Street United Church (82 Sydenham St.) the She Sings! women’s choir is proud to present an evening dedicated to the country we love, in this milestone year. Happy 150th Canada! We are excited to share the stage with Eccentric Vocal Ensemble (EVE), the Kingston Youth Choir, and our special guest, Kelli Trottier. Kelli is an internationally acclaimed fiddler, singer, and stepdancer. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 dollars for students. They will be available for sale on shesings.ca, at Brian’s Record Option (381 Princess St.) and at Long & McQuade Music (1057 Midland Ave.). We hope to see you there, helping us celebrate!
